Enlightenment DR17 is the next version of the enlightenment window manager. Being a complete rewrite of DR16, and designed to be a full-fledged desktop shell based on the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries (EFL), it has been in development since December 2000.
Currently DR17 is quite stable and should be fine for everyday desktop usage. Be warned that efm2, the enlightenment file manager is missing functionality and is quite buggy. If you want your data to be safe, please use a different file manager. Missing functionality in DR17 can be added by third party modules and applications, which may use a different toolkit.
How do I install DR17 on Arch Linux?
Make sure you have the community section enabled in /etc/pacman.conf.
Installing DR17 is as easy as doing (as root or via sudo):
pacman -Sy e17-svn e17-extra-svn
Wait, I want to update DR17 more often!
No problem! With the use of ArchE17 and some basic utilities you can create and install DR17 packages for Arch Linux. It is really simple. Get the latest version of the script linked below, extract the archive, make the script executable and just run it.
At least sudo, but also abs (if you do not specify the 'noupdate' option) should be accessible via sudo.
The latest version of the script is ArchE17 0.0.5 (released July 2011)
